Friday, July 3, 5:00-7:00pm
Wandering Rose
Open Mic, 7:00-9:00pm
Young Folks is a chance to investigate the rise of youth culture in the Napa art scene. Curator Ann Trinca was inspired by recent encounters with young leaders like Olivia Everett and Alex Lydon of Wandering Rose; Nicole Lee at artspace404 (Santa Rosa); and other groups like Individual Collective (Vallejo) and Darkroom Productions. She states, "It is the perfect time for Napa to take notice of its next generation of artists and musicians. Change is coming fast and we need to reward that kind of energy and talent in this region."
Beyond the visual arts, Young Folks will feature two Listening Stations of mp3s. Participants in the 2009 Battle of the Bands have contributed tracks to the project. The curator's personal zine collection will be part of a new Zine Reading Room in the space. Artists interested in sharing their own zines can donate them to the library by dropping them at 1144 Main Street.
Beginning next week, July 2, the Nest will launch a series of craft projects on Thursday nights during Chefs Market. For a $5/person fee, you can build simple craft skills and leave with your own creation.
• July 2-Independence Day Decorations (pimp your pride)
• July 9-Jersey Jewels (Tshirts into necklaces)
• July 16-Born Again Banners (vinyl sketchbooks)
• July 23-I Want Candy Box Bags (DIY purse)
• July 30-Crochet Crazy (beyond the knit cap)
During regular Nest hours (Wed-Sat, 10-6) The Craft Pad is an Open Studio, where folks can hang out, use the donated supplies and sewing machines, explore new techniques, etc. Our pad is your pad!
